You may be able to find botanical insecticides locally, which are often very helpful for preventing pest infestations. Some natural insecticides are stronger and more effective than the chemically engineered synthetic pesticides that are commercially available. But, because they are made of natural materials, these types of insecticides frequently fade much faster.

By planting garlic around your garden, you can deter bugs from taking up residence. The smell repels many pesky insects. Make sure you plant these around the outer rim of the garden, and next to plants that are particularly likely to be attacked by pests. An added plus of planting garlic is the bulb can be used for cooking and eating as well.

Use companion plants in your organic garden. Planting bean vines at the base of corn, for example, provides a natural structure for the bean vine to grown on. By repelling pests and making the soil healthier, they reduce the need for fertilizers or pesticides. For example, any plant that has a heavy smell will help repel pests.

Create a mixture that consists of six parts water to one part milk, and spray your garden with this solution regularly. This helps prevent mildew, which can cause your plants to die. The mixture is not hard to store, keep in your fridge for about three weeks. It is very safe to use every day until you have the mildew under control.

Think about planting everbearing strawberries in your garden, especially if you have small children. Small kids enjoy picking fruit themselves out of a garden. Because of this, they’ll be more likely to provide you with some assistance in your garden if they feel like they’re receiving something out of it.
